1st Tennis
Last Friday, several members of the tennis team were in Toronto for the OFSAA Qualifier Tournament. Robin Anstoetz and Anna Maxwell, and Ximena Castro and Max Brandes competed in high school mixed doubles. Kristian Paschalis and Bennie Lueders, and Nicolas Small and Shunya Sunami in high school boys’ doubles, and Alex Kam in high school singles.

It was an eventful day packed full of some very impressive tennis! With a 5:15 a.m. start, our players were a little rusty for their first matches. However, as the day progressed so did their tennis. Alex, Bennie and Shunya served better than they had all season! Kristian played with style, and Nicolas with tact. Ximena and Max both used their powerful groundstrokes to hold strong in many long rallies. Many games came down to tiebreakers making for some very exciting tennis to watch.

Though everyone played really well on Friday, only the top two in each category move on to OFSAA. Anna Maxwell and Robin Anstoetz were the only two from LCS to move onto OFSAA. They had two matches that came down to tiebreakers, and they maintained focus and determination throughout all of their games. Their teamwork was unparalleled making for a fabulous duo to watch. We are so proud of them!

OFSAA tennis will be held on May 29-31 and it will be at three locations this year: University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus), Mayfair Parkway and Mayfair East.

1st Girls’ Soccer
On Tuesday, May 16 the 1st Girls' Soccer team hosted Trinity College School. Although LCS had a bit of a slow start, the addition of two junior players, Madia McGowan (who scored a hat trick!) and defender Laura Pede helped to strengthen the team.  Clara Mindjimba, Nikki Cannon (2) and Sophie Welch added to the score making the final for LCS 7-0.  Congratulations to Sophie Milburn who earned the shut-out.

On Wednesday May 17 the girls battled the heat again at home when they faced Trafalgar Castle School.  Although hot, tired, stiff and sore, the team fought to win the last regular season game and potentially the last game on home field.  The team knew that a win was needed in order to solidify a spot in playoffs so they dug deep.  Dakyum Lee scored off a solid pass from Sophie Welch to get us on the scoreboard, then Clara Mindjimba made a solid shot from right wing into the top corner.  Then four minutes into the 2nd half Sophie Welch scored off a breakaway down the left wing.  Shortly after she scored Sophie set up Clara with a beautiful cross earning Clara her second goal.  Dakyum then beat the GK and scored her second goal of the game, followed by Sophie Welch scoring off a header at the back post, finalizing the score of 6-1.

The team is looking forward to the semi-finals on Wednesday, May 24.  As there are games with other teams that still need to be played we are uncertain as to final standings.

Jr. Girls’ Soccer
On Saturday, May 13 the Jr. Girls’ Soccer team hosted their final game of the season against St. John's Kilmarnock. As always, our girls played their hearts out and left their coaches feeling very proud. Both teams demonstrated strong offensive and defensive plays in both ends of the field, and as usual, we had some impressive saves from our goalie Maggiemae Jones. Despite SJK coming out with the win, our team demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and teamwork on the field; as they have all spring. Unfortunately, our season has come to an end, but we are so glad to have had this group of girls representing LCS. Congratulations on a hard fought season!
