A Taste of Winter

After the Christmas Break, students arrived back on campus to a winter wonderland.  While many may have had their toes in the sand a week ago, students across campus this week were frolicking in the snow.

Our Outdoor Education classes took advantage of the “warmer” temperatures and fluffy snow to get outside, learn the importance of proper winter dress, to practise how to navigate snowy conditions and, most important, to discover that being outdoors in the winter is fun.

Students strapped on Nordic skis, many for the first time, and learned the basics before racing across Lefevre Field.  Other students ventured off into the forest on snowshoes exploring our new waterfront and fitness trail, while some groups of OE students planned and prepared for their upcoming overnight winter camping experience by practising how to build quinzees (a shelter made by hollowing out a big pile of snow).

Getting outside and embracing the activities that winter has to offer is a great way to have fun and to experience all that attending a school in Canada has to offer.
