Often there is no richer learning experience then sharing with your peers, especially when it happens across grades. Our Grade 12 and Grade 9 students recently had the opportunity to connect and share ideas during a joint English class on the topic of reading.
Ms. Brown's AP Literature students joined Ms.Chellew's Grade 9 students for a class to discuss the merits of reading difficult literature. Both groups enjoyed the opportunity to connect with each other and share their opinions.
Students in the AP Literature class offered important advice to the Grade 9s about what to do when faced with the obstacle of a hard book:
Talk it out - discuss what is difficult with peers or teachers, learn to listen to the questions and interpretations of others;
Don't be afraid of books that don't contain your opinion because it can often be these books that teach you the most about yourself and;
Strong writing is almost always the result of strong reading. Students that make reading a habit will find that writing becomes much easier.
It was great to see our youngest and oldest students coming together to share and discuss the merits of reading.
