A Cold Dip in the Lake

By Derek Doucet

The Polar Bear Dip is a long-standing tradition in Ryder House that sees young men venturing from the warmth of their beds on a Sunday morning to brave the cold, sometimes icy, waters of Lake Katchawanooka. The Ryder House boys dive into the water from October until the ice comes in and then again when the ice has cleared. The group augments in size when it's nice out but the true polar bears are there rain or shine, warm or cold.

We had a nice dip this past Sunday and we welcomed a few students who just so happened to be walking by and thought a refreshing dip before brunch would be just what they needed to start the day. The water, albeit cold, was quite refreshing and we look forward to more sun and warmer temperatures for future dips.
