Choose a Change

By Erica Chellew

Students taking the Grade 11 Sociology course practiced skills of inquiry and communication this week when they presented their Choose a Change project to interested staff members during the lunch hour.

Students were asked to select one possible change that Lakefield might implement in the future and perform a sociological analysis on how this change could affect social structure at LCS. Hot topics included gender-neutral housing, replacing numerical grades with a mastery transcript and eliminating the dress code.

The best part of the project was watching students interact professionally with the community: explaining their thinking and their process and learning to answer questions out of context.
