1st Girls’ Tennis
Coaches: Sarah Thompson, Grant Elson
Yesterday, five players from the 1st Girls’ Tennis team travelled to Toronto for the CISAA Championships. The girls only found out for sure (as we had been tied for third) that we officially came third in our division on Tuesday afternoon, so it was very exciting to get to compete! Due to the late notice however, many of our players were unable to make the tournament so we were forced to default both our second and third doubles teams.
We faced some very difficult competitors in the opening rounds of the tournament and unfortunately, none of our girls won their first matches. A special shoutout goes to Alejandra Porcar who played with a fierce determination and only ended up losing in a tiebreaker. It was a fast-paced game with many long rallies.
In the consolation matches, all our players were looking more like themselves on the courts. They had stronger exchanges, and many of their games got to deuce. Alejandra won her match fairly easily at 8-2, taking control early in the game. Ali Hyland faced a very challenging opponent, and though she didn't end up winning, she was happy with how well she played.
Jette Oberbeck and Shirley Li played first doubles. Jette had many powerful serves while both girls were aggressive at the net. Jette at one point was hit very hard in the eye by a ball, but it was amazing to watch her calm composure as she returned to the game quickly.
Abbey Murray played third singles and she also had a much stronger game in the consolation round. Her hard shots from the baseline resulted in a very close match, where she had a tough loss at 8-6.
We were so proud of the girls for making the championships and for such a great season!

1st Girls’ Soccer
Coaches: Janice Runza, Amy McGrath, Jessica Carbone, Leisa Wierenga
Today 1st Girls’ Soccer team competed in the quarter-finals. LCS finished first in the east and faced St. John's-Kilmarnock School who finished fourth in the west. The girls played a tough game in the heat and gave a maximum effort, and unfortunately the LCS girls were defeated 5-2 eliminating the team from continuing in the playoffs.
Sophie Milburn scored the first goal of the game within the first two minutes, she beat the defense and passed the ball low hitting the goalies fingers and trickling into the back of the net.
20 minutes into the second half Clara Mindjimba broke through SJK’s defensive line, showing amazing ball control to fire one on net from about 18 yards out hitting the net close to the post - what a brilliant goal.
With several injuries and breakdown in plays, SJK went on to score 4 unanswered goals for the ultimate win.
We would like to recognize two players for their leadership and absolutely amazing gameplay: Nikki Cannon for her leadership and control of the game, and Anna Rasmus for her heart and for being a force to be reckoned with on the field, as our last man back she made multiple clutch plays and never let up.
It was a great season ladies, be proud of what you have accomplished, it has been an absolute pleasure to coach you all.
