Building and Fostering Relationships

By Grade 9 Reps: Rori Ash, Vincent Cloutier, Jonty Harris, Emma Stevenson

We participated in a workshop with Nancy Watt, someone who specializes in using improv to help with social skills. We participated in some interesting activities to improve people's communication together.  Some of the activities involved teachers doing improv, which we found this very funny to watch. It was great to see them work together with a partner or as a team. The main purpose was to help the students improve their communication skills, as well as their confidence. We took away some great ways to further our conversation skills with people. It was a great experience to get to know every single student in our grade.

After spending most of the morning and early afternoon inside doing improvisation, we ended the day building campfires outside in small groups, making s’mores and singing campfire songs. It was great to get outside.

As Grade 9s, our LCV pillar is The Confident Self and the improv session was a great approach for the group to become more confident with communication. The whole Intersession Day was a great opportunity to connect with those in our grade that we don’t always see around or connect with on a daily basis.
