Thanks to the tremendous leadership and generosity of two donors, we are thrilled to announce that we opened the doors to Uplands House. Head of House, Vera Wilcox, welcomed 25 eager girls to their new home. The residence is the first of three new student residences proposed within the school's 50-year Master Campus Plan.
The 14,000 sq. foot building, designed by Bill Lett '92 of Lett Architects Inc., carries the beautiful aesthetic introduced with Hadden Hall, combining natural materials such as stone, wood and glass in a design which opens itself to natural light and the surrounding environment.
Located at the end of the cul de sac
between Matthews and Cooper House, the new student residence is the school's third LEED gold-certified facility, meeting stringent environmental and sustainability standards. With an emphasis on creating an environment of excellence and comfort, the new residence includes:
- two stories (with walkout on lower floor)
- capacity for 26 students
- air-conditioned double rooms with bathroom
- two commons rooms
- four study rooms
- a fully equipped upper-floor kitchen
- south-facing clerestory windows and light tunnels to stream natural light throughout both floors
- a 2,200 sq. foot Head of House residence
- an Assistant Head of House apartment situated on the lower level
Promoting Our Vision of Being Canada's Finest Boarding School
We are very proud of Uplands House, which will benefit our community through improved quality of life for our students, reduced congestion in existing residences, and the potential for offering gender flexibility by floor. It also provides the school with additional opportunities for entrepreneurial revenue (e.g., summer camps, corporate retreats), while its sustainability features will promote the school's new Environmental Stewardship
value and create teaching opportunities.
