Alumnus David Miller ’77 Visits LCS

As part of the LCS speaker series, earlier this week, we were pleased to welcome alumnus David Miller '77 who joined students in Chapel and at our Building Better Communities class to share his message about climate change.

David Miller is a Harvard trained economist and a lawyer. He is currently the North American Director, C40 Climate Leadership Group, and Global Ambassador of inclusive climate action and has served as Chair of C40 Cities from 2008 until 2010. He is the former President and CEO of World Wildlife Fund-Canada. Canada’s foremost conservation organization, the WWF creates solutions to the most serious conservation challenges facing our planet, helping people and nature thrive. Mr. Miller is also the former Mayor of Toronto (2003 to 2010). Under his leadership, Toronto became widely admired internationally for its environmental leadership, economic strength and social integration. He is a leading advocate for the creation of sustainable urban economies and a champion for the next generation of jobs through sustainability. David is also an LCS alumni parent - his son Simon is a graduate of the Class of 2015

Through examples of his work with C40, Mr. Miller reminded us of the dramatic impact the voice of many can have on the nations and industries of the world, he encouraged students to speak out against climate change and to ask good questions of their universities and future employers and to encourage each other to take responsibility for stewarding our planet. Mr. Miller was well-received by our students who, he said, asked him some very good questions, ones which he had never been asked before.
