Looking Forward to the Year Ahead

On Monday, our community was buzzing with energy and excitement as all students, staff and faculty gathered together to celebrate Opening Chapel. Our senior students, the Class of 2019, led with a procession, Co-Head Students Emilia Voudouris and Max Brandes installed the school banner, we sang together and we heard an important message from our Head of School Anne-Marie Kee.

She reminded our students, "Lakefield’s mission is to challenge, not just enable." Preparing for university also means preparing for life and "the challenges you will someday meet, face-to-face, head-on, without a coach, teacher, parent, guardian, advisor, Head of House or mentor in sight." She encouraged our students to embrace the challenges presented to them here, now, in order to prepare to lead through adversity someday in the future.

Anne-Marie also reminded students to be kind and take care of each other, to have the courage to ask good questions and to always try their best.

"You are part of a community here at Lakefield, a community that is very serious about taking care of each other. You will find the hardest-working and most passionate and caring teachers and staff here. Seriously, this is a place where kindness prevails...My experience is that when you are living life in that realm of trying your best, you will discover who you are and who you are meant to be. So, ask good questions, try your best and be kind. That’s my hope for you this year, and it will be a great year."  Anne-Marie Kee.
