LCS Athletes Compete at 2022 Candy Cane Cup

Members of the LCS Nordic high-performance team joined Kawartha Nordic athletes this past weekend to compete at the first Ontario Cup series races of the season in Gatineau, Québec.

Having just made the leap from high school racing to club racing, athletes Louisa Dalglish '25, Ben Lavallee '25, Gabe Roti '25, and Rasmus Jensen '26 experienced their very first Classic ski technique race. With lots of fierce double poling, some running on skis and some herringbone these four, along with veteran Evan Armstrong '23, braved Saturday's 1km sprint on a 100% man-made snow course with success and smiles.

Sunday came with fresh snow and a switch to a longer Free technique interval start race that allowed for the more familiar skate skiing. Gabe and Evan faced four laps of a challenging but fast 1.64km course, while the others raced over three laps. It was refreshing for everyone to be on skate skis once again, and several times athletes were heard exclaiming, "I love skiing!"

With 575 athletes of all ages from Ontario, Québec and beyond racing each day, the Candy Cane Cup was a big event and our athletes are to be congratulated on rising to the occasion despite not yet having been on snow here at home. In addition to some great skiing, our athletes did their best to cheer on their fellow teammates and everyone all weekend long in true LCS sportsmanship and style.

Lâche pas la patate!
