5th Annual Seb Jones ’13 Poetry Slam

LCS students are invited to express their creativity and share their voice through spoken word poems every year at our annual Seb Jones '13 Memorial Poetry Slam. Prizes are awarded for the best Junior and Senior performances as well as the best in the Free Slam competition.

On the evening of April 19, seven students (including our sacrificial poet), joined by Peterborough's poet laureate, Ziysah Von Beibenstein, took the floor and courageously shared their art with the audience. Beyond our students’ talent, one of our favourite parts of the evening is the feeling of warmth and camaraderie among the students. They were so encouraging and supportive of one another.

Congratulations to Veda '26 for achieving first place poet and Ivy '24 for earning second place. Well done, poets!

We are grateful to the Jones family for their encouragement and support of this special event.

About Seb Jones '13
Seb Jones, Class of 2013, was a sporty outdoorsman, keen canoeist, an artist, and a friend to all who knew him. Sebastian was influential in ensuring everyone felt valued and included. Sadly in June of 2019, Sebastian died by suicide. As a tribute to Seb's spirit, his family and friends sponsor an annual poetry slam competition. In doing so, they hope to add some joy and lightness during the long dark days of winter.
