The Cannabis and Youth Clinical Education Team, which is a collaboration between local physicians, medical residents and the Canadian Mental Health Association, Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge, formed in 2017 in response to the upcoming legalization of marijuana and the concern about the impact of this increased access on the health of our youth.
In this 1-hour long presentation, based on the most current evidence-based research, the Team will cover:
What is cannabis? A breakdown of THC and CBD, and methods of use
Statistics of use
The neuroscience of cannabis use (its impact on the brain) – both short and long-term
Why do youth use cannabis and alternative coping strategies you can teach them
How to talk to youth about cannabis
A question and answer period
The committee hopes that this presentation will be both engaging and informative, providing the facts of cannabis in a way that makes sense, and practical tools for teachers, parents and caregivers of youth.
