The cocurricular arts program
, including visual arts, debating, music drama and dance, plays a central role in a Lakefield College School education.
The community's commitment to the arts means that the artistic or musical student swiftly finds acceptance and recognition. Study in the arts is a valuable end in itself and is of value to students whatever their intended field of study. From creating and performing can come self-discipline, confidence, self-awareness, and a wider knowledge of the world both past and present. Involvement in student activities enhances the quality of school life, discourages cynicism and encourages a more engaged and dynamic approach to human affairs.
Many students are involved in more than one area of cocurricular arts throughout the year. It’s not at all unusual for a student to participate in a play, sing in the choir and go to a debating tournament all in one term! However, everyone is welcome to participate at their own pace. While everyone involved in cocurricular drama and dance participates in a stage production, music and debating both offer "recreational" opportunities. There are many ways to contribute!
