Tuition Management FAQs

We understand that every family is unique

Lakefield is a dynamic school, in part, because it is committed to attracting a diverse student body—locally, nationally and internationally.

Every year, we meet remarkable students from a variety of backgrounds and, as we share with them the exciting and transformational opportunities available on our 315-acre campus, we are always mindful of the cost of an independent school education. We understand that every family has their own set of financial circumstances of which we need to be sensitive.

How We Support Our Families

Every year, we award approximately $2 million dollars in financial assistance to approximately 30% of our students. The nature of each award respects the unique financial needs of our families.

FAQs About Financial Support at Lakefield

List of 6 items.

  • Who is eligible for a financial award?

All applicants—Day, North American Boarding, and International Boarding—who have received acceptance to Lakefield are eligible to apply for support through Apple Financial Services. Of course, we are more than happy to begin the conversation at any stage during the application process.
  • What do you look for when determining needs-based awards?

Apple Financial Services will consider a family’s income, assets, debts, and medical and other family circumstance, including whether the family has multiple children attending tuition-charging schools. They will also factor in a family's ability to pay any additional tuition obligations, including day-care, nursery school, other independent schools, and university/college.
  • What are the deadlines to apply for needs-based support?

Lakefield has rolling admissions and is normally filled by late spring. Families who submit their applications early in the year and receive acceptance will be considered for financial support as soon as possible after their financial assistance application has been processed.
  • What happens if parents are divorced or separated?

The school may require both parents to submit financial statements depending on their unique situation. Confidentiality is assured. A contribution from the parent with whom the student does not reside is expected only after all special circumstances including child support and alimony are considered. Please contact the Admissions Office for further guidance.
  • Is there a limit to the amount of assistance a family can receive?

While Lakefield is prepared to offer very generous awards to outstanding students who require financial assistance, the school does believe that every family, regardless of means, should contribute something to the education of their child.
  • Is the assistance renewable each year for the same amount?

Each year, we ask families receiving tuition assistance to re-submit a FACS application to confirm that there have been no changes to their financial situation. In almost all cases, the original amount awarded will be sustained in perpetuity until graduation. Awards are only re-issued to families whose previous school accounts are up-to-date.
