There are many different ways to support Lakefield College School. When you think about making your donation, you may wish to consider one or more of the giving methods listed below.
A donation of cash works immediately to support the fundraising goals of Lakefield College School. You can give a one-time gift, a monthly gift or make a pledge paid out over one or more years.
Donations of securities are an appealing gift option. Capital gains on publicly traded securities can be eliminated when gifted to a registered charity like The Lakefield College School Foundation. Eligible securities include shares, bills, "flow through" shares for taxpayers at the highest marginal tax rate, futures, and units in mutual funds that are traded on Canadian, U.S. and international exchanges.
Lakefield College School is equipped to receive your donated securities from Canada, the US and the UK. At the close of the day, the stock will be sold and the donor will receive tax benefits for the stock value at the time of sale. To transfer securities to the LCS Foundation please complete the Canadian gift form or contact a member of our Foundation teamfor non-Canadian gifts.
In-kind donations to Lakefield are made in many ways – property, furnishings, and works of art to name a few. Whatever the form, your gift will be appraised by an independent professional (if worth more than $1,000) and you will be eligible to receive tax benefits for the fair market value of your gift.
Flow through shares can enable donors to dramatically reduce the after-tax cost of their charitable gifts. This special category of shares was introduced 40+ years ago to encourage investment in Canada’s resource sector by allowing certain tax deductions to “flow through” from companies to investors.
Flow through shares can reduce the effective after-tax cost of a charitable gift by an Ontario resident to roughly 15 cents per dollar donated, compared to 54 cents per dollar donated for a traditional gift. The tax benefits vary from province to province and based upon the individual tax circumstances of the donor.
Should you wish to learn more about flow through share donations, please contact a member of our Foundation team. We can assist donors in arranging the purchase and donation of flow through shares to Lakefield College School.
Lakefield College School is very fortunate to receive support from parents, alumni and friends around the world who share a commitment to the Lakefield difference.
