The Junior Day Camp will provide a fun-filled week of activities and make the most of our beautiful campus in the summer months. Your child(ren) will be outdoors every day, swimming, doing arts and crafts, playing games, and more! Each week children will be split into two groups, by age. Additionally, all campers will be required to bring their own canoe paddle and lifejacket to ensure an appropriate fit.

Students hone their English skills in this immersive experience, as they learn to pitch tents, build fires, paddle, identify edible plants, imitate bird calls, and much more. The program is a 3-week immersion experience starting on the Lakefield campus and water, and building toward an extended camping expedition to an Ontario wilderness park. Enjoy a true Canadian summer experience! On weekends students will explore some exciting locations in Ontario, such as Canada's Wonderland.
Learning and advancing skills in canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, sailing, and windsurfing, in this program students will make the most of the 7,000 feet of waterfront that LCS has to offer in every way possible! With a portion of the day focussed on waterfront activities, the other portion of the day students can participate in a variety of other campus activities (such as tennis, soccer, and fun games like camouflage).

Students will develop outdoor and team-building skills and work towards sequentially more challenging and exciting overnight camping experiences. Students will spend nights at the LCS main campus and Northcote campus. Learn the joy of paddling, hiking, and making your own food outdoors in this Wilderness and Camping Adventure experience!
Students will spend half their day exploring various climbing experiences, from bouldering, outdoor and indoor rock climbing, to ropes course opportunities. The other half of the day, students will enjoy our waterfront campus with activities like paddling, playing sports, or doing art activities.

Overnight students arrive during a designated time on July 23.
Students will spend half their day on LCS’ own Northcote Farm and in the main campus kitchen, learning about the process of food production through hands-on fun learning experiences. Digging in the dirt, learning about critters, harvesting produce, and making dishes using the produce from Northcote farm, students will experience a wide variety of farming adventures.
The other half of their day will be spent enjoying our waterfront campus with activities like paddling, playing sports, or doing art activities.

Students will spend their mornings on LCS’ own Northcote Farm, learning about the process of food production through authentic hands-on learning experiences. Students will roll up their sleeves and dig in the dirt, learn about the critters that help keep the soil healthy, harvest and clean vegetables, learn elements of the business of running a farm, and much more.
In the afternoons, students will learn culinary skills and make meals that will be donated to local food groups using the fresh produce from Northcote farm, in addition to having the opportunity to sample some of their creations.

This five-day intensive program will provide strong swimmers ages 13+ with the opportunity to work toward their Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross lifeguarding certifications and their Emergency First Aid for part of each day, and the other portion of the day will be spent focussing on ORCKA flatwater canoeing levels 1-3.
Certifications in this program are not guaranteed as certain competencies must be met to achieve the varying levels of certification*. Please see the Bronze Medallion course requirements and Bronze Cross course requirements for further information regarding competencies that must be met to achieve either of these certifications.

This course explores various arts disciplines (dance, drama, installation and performance art, media arts, music, storytelling, utilitarian or functional art, visual arts), giving students the opportunity to create, present, and analyze art works, including integrated art works/productions, that explore or reflect First Nations, Métis, and Inuit perspectives and cultures. Students will examine the interconnected relationships between art forms and individual and cultural identities, histories, values, protocols, and ways of knowing and being. They will demonstrate innovation as they learn and apply art-related concepts, methods, and conventions, and acquire skills that are transferable beyond the classroom. Students will use the creative process and responsible practices to explore solutions to creative arts challenges.

Civics & Citizenship: This course explores rights and responsibilities associated with being an active citizen in a democratic society. Students will explore issues of civic importance such as healthy schools, community planning, environmental responsibility, and the influence of social media, while developing their understanding of the role of civic engagement and of political processes in the local, national, and/or global community. Students will apply the concepts of political thinking and the political inquiry process to investigate, and express informed opinions about, a range of political issues and developments that are both of significance in today’s world and of personal interest to them.
Career Studies: This course gives students the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge, and habits that will support them in their education and career/life planning. Students will learn about global work trends, and seek opportunities within the school and community to expand and strengthen their transferable skills and their ability to adapt to the changing world of work. On the basis of exploration, reflective practice, and decision-making processes, students will make connections between their skills, interests, and values and their postsecondary options, whether in apprenticeship training, college, community living, university, or the workplace. They will set goals and create a plan for their first postsecondary year. As part of their preparation for the future, they will learn about personal financial management – including the variety of saving and borrowing tools available to them and how to use them to their advantage – and develop a budget for their first year after secondary school.
This course enables students to enhance their understanding of concepts in biology, chemistry, earth and space science, and physics, and of the interrelationships between science, technology, society, and the environment. Students are also given opportunities to further develop their scientific investigation skills, including hands-on labs using Northcote farm and other practical elements. Students will plan and conduct investigations and develop their understanding of scientific theories related to the connections between cells and systems in animals and plants; chemical reactions, with a particular focus on acid–base reactions; forces that affect climate and climate change; and the interaction of light and matter. While on campus, mornings and evenings are devoted to the work around the Science course; afternoons are spent in recreational camp activities on our waterfront and campus. Weekend excursions are included in Boarding program cost; Day Program students have the option to add on weekend excursions.

This travel learning adventure is a blended academic Grade 11 Biology credit course that combines learning online with the opportunity to explore and compare the diversity of the marine environment of the Bay of Fundy (St. Andrews, NB), with the freshwater ecosystem of Lake Katchewanooka (Lakefield, Ontario). This program includes a stay on our LCS campus, and at the Huntsman Marine Science Centre, which is a world class research and education facility with access to marine experts, dedicated instructional labs/wetlabs, Fundy Discovery Aquarium, research vessel, several classrooms and dormitory. At the start and end of the course there is a portion of time dedicated to learning foundational and theoretical knowledge online.The focus of this course is on refining skills related to investigation through fieldwork, observation and inquiry while we explore biological systems and diversity of life, evolution, genetics, animal and plant life.

Dates June 28 - July 28, 2023 This course runs online from June 28 to July 7, continues on LCS campus from July 9 - 15, and then the group will travel together to Huntsman Marine Science Centre in New Brunswick from July 15-25. Students will return to their homes on July 25 and the course will wrap-up online from July 26-28.

This blended program provides the opportunity to learn about food production and eco-farming through hands-on adventures on our school farm. Students plant, nurture, and harvest greens, root vegetables, and more, learning first-hand about the business of running a farm and the value of regenerative agriculture. While on campus, mornings and evenings are devoted to the work around the Seed to Table course; afternoons are spent in recreational camp activities at our waterfront campus. Weekend excursions are included in boarding program cost; day program students have the option to add on weekend excursions.

Students will develop leadership skills through hands-on work experiences with LCS Summer Academy Programs and simultaneously earn a high school credit. Throughout the mornings while on campus, students will have in-class time exploring factors that affect success in the work environment, exploring their personal strengths, and refining their job search and employability skills for future employment. During the afternoons, they will have time to apply their learnings through volunteer hours with campers from other Summer Academy programs, earning approximately 24 community service hours over the 3-week period on campus. They will be able to choose to work toward their Bronze Medallion or ORCKA Flatwatering Canoeing levels 1 through 4. There will be an opportunity to apply to be a Day Camp Junior Counsellor with LCS Summer Academy after successful completion of this program (This opportunity will only be available to students ages 16+).

This course extends students’ experience with functions. Students will investigate the properties of polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions; develop techniques for combining functions; broaden their understanding of rates of change; and develop facility in applying these concepts and skills. Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics. This course is intended both for students taking the Calculus and Vectors course as a prerequisite for a university program and for those wishing to consolidate their understanding of mathematics before proceeding to any one of a variety of university programs.

This course examines the relationships between food, energy balance, and nutritional status; the nutritional needs of individuals at different stages of life; and the role of nutrition in health and disease. Students will evaluate nutrition-related trends and will determine how food choices can promote food security and environmental responsibility. Students will learn about healthy eating, expand their repertoire of food-preparation techniques, and develop their social science research skills by investigating issues related to nutrition and health.

This five day program will focus on training intermediate to advanced dancers techniques in Ballet, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Lyrical, and Contemporary dance. Taught by emerging young choreographers in an open, creative and collaborative environment, dancers will have the opportunity to express themselves through improvisational exercises. The program will close with a performance where dancers will share what they’ve learned and created throughout the week.
