Behind every gift to Lakefield is a relationship built on trust. Families, alumni, and donors invest in our mission knowing their support will be managed wisely and used to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. To safeguard that trust, Lakefield operates through a dual-governance model that brings together strong educational leadership and rigorous philanthropic oversight:

• Lakefield College School oversees mission, education, strategy, and institutional health.
• The Lakefield College School Foundation oversees philanthropy, endowment management, and donor stewardship.

Together, these two governing bodies include more than 100 volunteer leaders—14 School Directors, 65 School Trustees, 8 Foundation Directors, and 37 Foundation Trustees—each contributing their expertise to ensure strong checks and balances and a culture of accountability.

Each entity is guided by its own Board of Directors and supported by a wider community of Trustees, drawing on deep experience from across Canada and around the world. To ensure meaningful alignment across both governing bodies, the Head of School and Foundation serves as a vital bridge—connecting strategic priorities, philanthropic leadership, and the school’s long-term mission.

School Board of Directors

Lakefield’s School Board of Directors provides governance leadership that ensures the school remains mission-aligned, fiscally sound, and educationally excellent. Directors safeguard the long-term health of the institution by offering oversight of strategy—including the Impact 2035 vision—while ensuring operational accountability and supporting the Head of School.

Drawing on expertise in education, finance, governance, and community leadership, Directors meet regularly throughout the year to review priorities, monitor progress, and guide major institutional decisions. Their commitment strengthens the school’s stability today while supporting the continued evolution of Lakefield’s program and campuses.

School Trustees

School Trustees strengthen Lakefield’s governance by offering insight, perspective, and long-term stewardship. Representing alumni, parents, alumni parents, staff, students, and community members, Trustees provide, continuity and support for the school’s evolving needs.

Trustees elect the School’s Directors, appoint auditors, and contribute to governance committees and strategic initiatives throughout the year.

Foundation Board of Directors

Philanthropic leadership at Lakefield is strengthened by the Foundation’s Directors, who steward resources that directly support student learning and strengthen the school’s long-term financial health.

The Foundation Board of Directors oversees all philanthropic resources at Lakefield, ensuring donor gifts and endowment funds are managed responsibly and aligned with the school’s mission and strategic vision. Directors provide financial oversight, review investment performance, and guide long-term philanthropic priorities that help Lakefield thrive for generations.

Working in partnership with the Head of School and the Foundation leadership team, Directors help ensure every philanthropic investment is stewarded with care, transparency, and long-range planning.

Foundation Trustees

Foundation Trustees play an essential advisory role in Lakefield’s philanthropic ecosystem. Representing alumni, parents, and friends of the school, Trustees provide strategic counsel, donor insight, and global perspective. Their guidance supports the Foundation’s work in strengthening donor relationships, elevating philanthropic priorities, and ensuring the long-term health of Lakefield’s endowment.

While Trustees do not hold formal decision-making authority, they elect the Foundation’s Directors, appoint auditors, and help shape conversations that align donor support with the school’s enduring mission and values.
