Understanding Tuition at Lakefield

Planning for an independent school education is a big decision, and we want families to feel informed and supported from the very beginning.

While tuition varies for day, Canadian/U.S. boarding, and international boarding families, every student benefits from the same promise: an immersive, academically strong, teenager-centered education rooted in relationships, nature, and hands-on learning.

Below, you’ll find a clear breakdown of tuition, what’s included, and the options available to help you plan with confidence.

Tuition Refund Insurance Plan (TRP)

Protection and peace of mind if plans unexpectedly change.

What TRP Covers

Tuition Refund Insurance (TRP) offers families financial protection if a student must withdraw from LCS due to medical, psychological, or other covered reasons. Families may receive a 60% to 75% refund of tuition fees, prorated based on attendance and the circumstances outlined in the policy for fees paid.

Refund examples include:

  • 75% for physical disability
  • 75% for mental or nervous disorder
  • 60% for non-medical withdrawal
  • 75% in the case of dismissal

TRP premiums are billed in May and calculated on tuition fees less any scholarship or bursary received, plus 8% provincial sales tax.

The deadline to cancel TRP with written notification is June 28, 2026.

Families receive the full TRP policy document with their enrolment materials.

TRP Requirements and Estimated Cost by Student Type

TRP is optional for some payment plans and mandatory for others. Requirements differ by student type:

Additional TRP Information

LCS recommends that families consider enrolling in TRP to safeguard their financial commitment, as parents remain responsible for the full annual fees. The insurance is offered through an independent provider and is fully outlined in the TRP policy document.

By enrolling in the Plan, parents authorize the School to process and collect any claim payment and apply it directly to the student’s account, issuing any remaining balance to the family.

Families are encouraged to review the School Life Guide to understand expectations around conduct and circumstances that may lead to dismissal. LCS maintains a zero-tolerance policy as described in the Guide.

For questions about TRP or how it applies to your payment plan, our Business Office is happy to assist.

Payments and Banking

LCS offers several convenient ways for families to submit tuition and fee payments. Instructions for each method are shared during enrollment and available anytime from the Business Office.

Payment Methods
Please read the following LCS Payments Options for further details.
Late Payment
Accounts for fees and extra charges that are outstanding at the time of the billing will be subject to late payment charges at a rate of 16% per annum. An email notification will be sent out when monthly statements are available (by the 5th working day of the following month). All original medical invoices/prescriptions are scanned and emailed after statements are completed for that month.

Failure to comply with the terms of payment may result in the student not being admitted to the school for the subsequent term or academic year. In addition, the school may withhold grading services and exercise other sanctions as it deems necessary for the collection of overdue accounts.
Student Banking
Students are encouraged to responsibly handle their own finances and to have their own bank account in the village of Lakefield with either the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) or the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). The school suggests a $30 weekly allowance to cover incidental expenses such as postage, taxis, and haircuts, etc. Students are encouraged to plan their spending and keep only small sums of money in their possession. A bank debit machine is conveniently located in our school store.
