Preparing for Life, Every Day

At Lakefield, readiness is a lived experience.

Students prepare for life by engaging deeply with their learning, their community, and the world around them. With personalized guidance, immersive experiences, and a culture that values curiosity, courage, and the willingness to try again, students graduate with a strong sense of who they are, where they’re headed, and the skills to thrive, academically and emotionally, in a global world.

Guidance and Advising

Guided by purpose.

At Lakefield, caring for students means attending to every aspect of their wellbeing. Through on-campus health services, counselling, and guidance, as well as daily routines that encourage calm focus, healthy activity, and a steady rhythm of life, we help teenagers build the patterns and practices that support growth—in body, mind, and spirit.

Know and be Known

From the moment students arrive in Grade 9, they’re supported by a team of Advisors, teachers, Heads of House, and Guidance Counsellors who help them connect their interests, strengths, and goals. Together, they design pathways that evolve with each year—from house and classroom discussions and outdoor expeditions to specialized areas of study, university applications and beyond.

Learning Commons

Our Learning Commons is the academic heart of campus: quiet study zones, collaborative workspaces, and ready access to educators and counsellors. It’s where students connect with peers and mentors, draft personal statements, and build research and digital-literacy skills.

The Guidance Journey

As students move through Grades 9 to 12, they engage in evolving guidance, beginning with career exploration and course planning and culminating in one-on-one advising in their senior year. By Grade 12, personalized guidance and small-group seminars support program research, essays, interviews, and decisions—whether for universities in Canada or around the world. Students also explore alternatives such as gap years or college pathways that align with their goals and aspirations.

Finding the Right Fit: Readiness is more than university acceptances, it’s about finding the right fit. Every student graduates with a clear path ahead that aligns with their strengths, interests, and ambitions.

Our guidance counsellors work closely with students and families to connect passions to meaningful pathways, guide applications across Canada, the U.S., Europe, the U.K., and beyond, and navigate testing and scholarship processes. The result is confident decision-making, and graduates who know not just where they’re going, but why.
Supported by a lifelong network of teachers, parents, and alumni, Lakefield graduates stay connected to a community that helps them thrive well beyond The Grove.

Learning that Endures

“You have an absolutely wonderful community and your students are awesome. Seriously, some of the most genuinely curious, positive and bright young individuals I have met. They asked such great questions, were enthusiastic and a joy to be around.”

Josh Sadagursky, Minerva U Admissions Officer
