At Lakefield, art is a lived experience, an invitation to imagine, work together, and express yourself.
Students find inspiration in spaces designed to encourage skills and creativity: sketching in the Art Studio, composing in the Music Studio, rehearsing in the Dance Studio, and performing in the Bryan Jones Theatre. Every creative moment strengthens confidence.
Each student participates in at least one creative co-curricular program each year, balancing artistry with discovery and embodying our belief in developing creative thinking through the arts.
Student Artwork: From Concept to Creation
The visual arts program encourages students to experiment across media—drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and photography—guided by passionate faculty and visiting artists. Each year, students showcase their work across campus and through In a Grove, our annual digital arts journal.

Every season, the arts come alive through productions, showcases, and concerts that bring the whole community together. From the energy of the Fall Musical and Spring Play to the creativity of our Dance Showcase and bi-annual concerts, each performance is a celebration of imagination, teamwork, and expression.
Experience the Arts at LCS
DramaFrom She Kills Monsters and Clue, to The Play That Goes Wrong and Lord of the Flies, LCS drama students dive into the performing arts with courage and enthusiasm—discovering what it means to tell stories that matter. They act, direct, design sets, and manage backstage crews; learning collaboration, timing, and courage under pressure. Students also bring their talents to the co-curricular Spring Play Cast & Crew to explore stage management, lighting, and performance.

Musical TheatreMusical Theatre at Lakefield blends acting, live performance, and choreography in large-scale productions such as Crazy for You, Mean Girls, Something Rotten, Anything Goes, Chicago (High School Edition), and Mamma Mia!. Students audition, rehearse, and perform under professional lighting and sound, while others join costume, pit band, and crew teams. The co-curricular Musical Theatre (Cast & Crew) provides opportunities for students to contribute onstage and backstage, often integrating skills learned in music, dance, and art courses.

DanceIn the LCS Dance Company, the co-curricular LCS Dance Company, and curricular dance courses for Grades 9–12, students explore hip hop, lyrical, jazz, cultural and contemporary forms. Guest instructors and alumni choreographers mentor students toward the annual Dance Showcase. With the majority of dances choreographed by the students themselves, it is a celebration of artistry, strength, confidence, and movement.

MusicMusic fills campus life through Concert Band, String Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Rock Choir, and Lorelei Consort Choir. Students perform in chapel, at community events, and in seasonal concerts, sometimes composing or arranging their own pieces. These ensembles nurture precision, teamwork, and the joy of shared sound.

Visual ArtsCreativity flourishes at Lakefield. In curricular Visual Arts courses, students explore drawing, painting, printmaking, graphics design and sculpture, while co-curricular opportunities like Filmmaking, Campus Art, Photography, Open Studio, Ceramics, Makerspace, Drawing and Painting, Studio Grove, and Creative Threads Club, extend their practice beyond the classroom. Students' work is showcased throughout the school and In a Grove Integrated Arts Journal.
