A Culture of Giving Back

Boarding and day students work side by side to support local partners, deepen empathy, and contribute meaningfully to our wider community.

Guided by empathy, leadership, and belonging, students discover how their actions—large or small—can make a lasting difference on campus and beyond.

Community Partnerships by House

Each House is building an ongoing relationship with a local not-for-profit organization—such as the Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre, YWCA Peterborough, or YES Shelter for Youth and Families. Through regular meetings, shared projects, and reflection, students will collaborate with their community partners to identify real needs and co-create initiatives that make a tangible difference. These partnerships evolve year over year, fostering sustainable connections and shared learning on both sides.

Northcote Farm and Local Food Networks

Through our regenerative farm and food-education programs, students help grow and share produce with Lakefield Food Bank, Kawartha Food Share and other local partners. Working alongside farmers and sustainability mentors, they learn firsthand how growing and giving are interconnected—and how local action can strengthen food security and environmental stewardship across the region.

Student-Led Initiatives

From raising funds to purchase supplies for unhoused youth and yard clean-ups to awareness campaigns for organizations such as  Movember and Tech Help for Seniors at the Lakefield Public Library, students take the lead in responding to real needs with creativity and care. Many projects begin as ideas sparked in Chapel, House meetings, or student clubs—and grow into community-wide efforts that showcase empathy, teamwork, and leadership in action.

Global Engagement

Through Round Square exchanges and global learning trips, students explore how local values of empathy and stewardship apply worldwide. Whether engaging in cultural exchange, or learning from community leaders abroad, students return with fresh perspectives, and a deeper sense of their shared humanity.

Collaborating for a Better Community

Partnerships beyond our Houses deepen Lakefield’s connection to the land and to the people who share it. Through shared projects and long-term collaborations, students see how service extends into every part of life at The Grove.

Beyond the individual House partnerships that anchor student service, Lakefield also sustains broader collaborations across the region—linking academic programs, sustainability initiatives, and cultural exchanges with partners who share our vision of care.
