Grade 10 Intersession: A Week of Challenge, Connection and Community
From creative challenges on campus to treetop trekking, community service and a day at Northcote, our Grade 10 students spent Intersession learning through new experiences, building connections and putting their leadership skills into action.
The week began on campus with a mix of activities designed to help students prepare for the year ahead. Sessions on guidance, cybersecurity and interpersonal consent gave students opportunities to build practical skills and reflect on how they navigate relationships, technology and their wider community. They also took part in collaborative activities that challenged them to communicate, listen and work together, including creative drawing challenges and team-building exercises.
On Wednesday, students headed to Ganaraska Forest Centre for an overnight adventure. Treetop trekking pushed students outside their comfort zones, while time together at camp created plenty of opportunities for connection. The evening even included an epic Grade 10 singalong, complete with a memorable rendition of “Wonderwall.”
Thursday brought students back to campus in the morning, where they spent time with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peterborough. Students connected with younger members of the community through activities including a game of Duck, Duck, Goose. They also took part in Kindagious Bike Quest, helping younger participants learn and build confidence on two wheels.
That evening, the Grade 10s stayed overnight on campus, with time to relax, connect and enjoy being together as a grade.
The week wrapped up Friday at Northcote, where students took part in a hands-on harvest experience and the LCS Chopped Challenge. Working with food and the land gave students another opportunity to collaborate, get creative and experience learning beyond the classroom.
Throughout the week, stewardship and community were also at the heart of the Grade 10 experience. During a special rock ceremony, each student chose a rock to represent an intention for the year ahead. They then threw their rocks into the river, symbolizing how one positive action can create a ripple effect and inspire further positive action within the Grove community.
From the treetops to the playing field, from community service to the kitchen, Grade 10 Intersession gave students plenty of opportunities to challenge themselves, build relationships and think about the impact they can have on the people and community around them.
