Looking Ahead: Grade 12 Post-Secondary Planning

Grade 12 students have kicked off the post-secondary planning process through our Mod 1 Guidance classes. Using our new University Resource Hub, classes follow a flipped classroom model where students are expected to watch pre-class videos before each session. This approach gives students the foundational knowledge they need ahead of time while fostering greater agency and independence as they navigate their applications. This also provides students with more individualized conversation and assistance during group classes.

Through these twice-weekly guidance sessions, students have begun setting up essential application portals, including their Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC) accounts, to prepare to submit their initial applications in the coming weeks. Additionally, students now have access to Youthfully, a new interview prep platform designed to help them practice and build confidence for supplementary applications and scholarship interviews.

Students have continued to engage in conversation with university admissions representatives. We are hosting post-secondary institutions from around the world on campus, and we invite parents to join us for our upcoming fairs on campus on October 29 and November 19. Interested students and families are also invited to attend the Ontario University Regional Fair on October 14th at Trent.

With the upcoming long weekend, we encourage you to check in with your teen about their initial thoughts, goals, and progress. Please feel free to reach out to your child’s guidance counsellor with any specific questions, or stay tuned for direct outreach from their counsellor soon. We are looking forward to an exciting year and the positive outcomes ahead!
