Career Day 2026: A Community of Possibilities

“What does the path forward really look like?”

It’s a question many students are still figuring out, and one that rarely has a simple or straightforward answer. At Lakefield College School, Career Day is designed to bring that question to life, connecting students with the people, experiences, and stories that help shape what comes next.

This year, Career Day once again highlighted the strength of the LCS community, as parents and alumni returned to campus to share their time, insights, and lived experiences. Their willingness to engage openly with students is what makes the day so impactful, offering not just a glimpse into different professions, but an honest look at the journeys behind them.

Across sessions, students explored a wide range of fields, from politics, law, and philanthropy to engineering, software, and the power generation industry. They also gained insight into careers in entrepreneurship, product development, the arts, video games, and artificial intelligence, alongside skilled trades such as carpentry and construction, and healthcare pathways including orthopedic surgery and veterinary medicine.

While the industries varied, a common theme emerged: there is no single path forward—only possibilities. Speakers shared stories of unexpected turns, risks taken, and passions discovered over time, reinforcing the idea that careers are not always linear, and that growth often comes from embracing change.

Our keynote speaker, David Rubin ’81, returned to campus to reflect on the profound impact his time at LCS had on his own journey. He spoke about how discovering the arts—particularly ceramics, painting, and printmaking—helped shape his sense of identity and ultimately influenced the trajectory of his career.

Now a leader in landscape architecture, Rubin shared how his work is grounded in empathy, designing spaces that bring people together, encourage dialogue, and foster connection. He challenged students to think beyond themselves, emphasizing that meaningful work is often rooted in understanding others and contributing to something larger than oneself. His message was clear: success is not only about what you do, but how you impact the world around you.

As students continue to explore their own paths, Career Day serves as a powerful reminder that they are supported by a community willing to share, guide, and inspire. Through these connections, students gain not only insight into potential careers, but the confidence to navigate their own unique journeys, wherever they may lead.
