Construction Manager and Engineer
Bird Construction
After graduating from Lakefield I attended Queens University for Civil and Structural Engineering. After university, I worked a couple years in various areas of civil engineering including, building Highways near Bracebridge (Ontario) and working for a structural engineeering firm in Toronto focused on parking garage rehabilitation. I landed more permanently at a consulting fengineering firm in Peterborough, designing subdivisions and the associated underground services along with the structural design for houses and retail buildings. For a protion of this time I was also on secondment to the City as a City Inspector for a year.
After six years, I left Canada for Melboure, Australia to complete my Masters in Business Administration at the Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne.
When I returned to Canada, I began working for a property development firm maintaining, renovating and building shopping plazas and malls. After five years, I moved to a small general contracting firm as the Director of Construction where I completed multiple construction and renovation projects on a variety of retail properties.
After another five years, I moved to Bird Construction where I still am today. Starting as a Project Manager, I progressed to the role of Production Manager and finally to Construction Manager/Project Director. During my career with Bird, I have had the opportunity to work on a diverse number of projects including several University/College renovations and expansions (two at York University, two at Humber College, Sheridan and university of Toronto). I have completed two performing arts centers and the Marylin Walker school for performing arts at Brock University. I completed a $150M roll out of 19 Target stores across Canada, and the $500M East Rail Maintenance facility for GO train maintenance in Whitby. In adddition to these projects, I have also worked on pharmaceutical labs, retail plazas, Nuclear facilities, police stations, forensic labs, Court Houses, residential condo towers up to 58 stories and hotel renovations (the W on Bloor Street in Toronto).
Throughout this time I have interacted with multiple different engineers and design professionals and have a good appreciation of what they contribute and many of the challenges that they face.
