Finding Inspiration On and Off the Stage: Crazy for You Cast and Crew Visit the Shaw Festival

This past weekend, the cast and crew of our upcoming fall musical, Crazy for You, immersed themselves in the world of professional theatre with a two-day trip to the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Throughout the weekend, students experienced theatre from every angle — as audience members, learners, and performers in their own right. They attended three productions (Anything Goes, Tons of Money, and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe), each followed by engaging discussions with members of the Shaw’s Education Team and performing artists. These conversations offered valuable insight into the creative process, from character development and choreography to the teamwork that brings a show to life.

Hands-on learning was a highlight of the trip. Students participated in a choreography workshop led by ensemble member Matt Alfano, followed by a stage combat session with Cosette Derome, where they learned safe and effective techniques for performing hand-to-hand and sword-fighting scenes.
Between shows and workshops, students explored backstage areas, shared meals, and connected as a cast — strengthening the sense of community that’s so essential to any production. The weekend was both educational and inspiring, giving students a glimpse of professional artistry while deepening their appreciation for collaboration and craft.

As they prepare to bring Crazy for You to the LCS stage this fall, our cast and crew are returning home energized, inspired, and ready to make a little theatre magic of their own.
