LCS Celebrates St. Nicholas Eve with Festive Dinner and Cultural Traditions

On December 5th, Lakefield College School celebrated St. Nicholas Eve with a special dinner in the dining hall, complete with authentic European treats and a surprise visit from St. Nicholas and Krampus.

Earlier in the week, members of the International Club—Kaan ’26 and JC ’26—gave a presentation on the history of St. Nicholas Day, helping students understand the traditions and stories behind this festive occasion. Students from Germany, Jakob ’26 and Niklas ’26, shared some of their favorite St. Nicholas Day customs, including the excitement of placing the largest boot possible to receive small candies and fruits, and the careful behavior required to avoid a visit from Krampus.

St. Nicholas Day is traditionally associated with generosity, helping others, and giving small gifts to bring joy to others—values that resonate strongly with the LCS community. The celebration offered students a chance to explore these traditions, while also highlighting the importance of sharing cultures from around the world.

The St. Nicholas Dinner was a memorable evening of cultural learning, festive treats, and community spirit, giving students a chance to experience the joy and generosity that the holiday celebrates.
