As we head into the final week of school before the winter break, the annual Grade 11 Holiday Party brought our LCS community together for a joyful day filled with laughter, creativity, connection, and holiday spirit. This much-loved tradition is more than just a celebration — it’s a meaningful opportunity for Grade 11 students to step into leadership, build community, and live out the values of LCS.
Beginning in early November, the Grade 11 Representatives — Leo, Teddy, Wesley, Ben, Sadie, Gwen, and Carla — took the lead in planning the event. Working from a whole-grade brainstorm, they designed a day that was inclusive, engaging, and offered something for everyone. Their leadership, collaboration, and enthusiasm set the tone for a meaningful and memorable celebration that reflected both the fun and values of the LCS community.
A Day Packed with Festive Fun
Throughout the day, students rotated through a wide variety of activities across campus. Each activity was supported and led by Grade 11 student volunteers who stepped into important leadership roles:
Karaoke & Just Dance in the Theatre, where confidence, enthusiasm, and questionable dance moves were celebrated equally.
Broomball on the outdoor rink, bringing friendly competition and lots of laughter.
MC Script Writing, supporting students preparing to host and run the evening Holiday Show.
Card Making for Hospice Peterborough, a quiet and meaningful space to give back.
Movie Time featuring the original CBC Frosty the Snowman — a nostalgic pause in the middle of a busy day.
House Gingerbread Competition, complete with Minute to Win It-style challenges where houses earned extra candy and building materials through teamwork and quick thinking.
Photos with Santa and Ms. Claus, featuring our very own Grade 11s Nate Roett and Lara Weidlich, who fully embraced their festive roles.
The Main Event: House Holiday Videos
The highlight of the celebration was the House Holiday Videos, hosted by Grade 11 student MCs. Every house came together to create a themed video led by their Grade 11 leaders, showcasing creativity, humour, and collaboration across grades.
Houses were paired and challenged with unique themes:
Home Alone — chronically online edition
Holiday Heist — featuring characters from Frozen
Elf Comes to LCS — most creative incorporation of maple syrup
The Grinch — must include cameos from campus kids
Santa’s Workshop — nightmare holiday edition
Holiday in Paradise — featuring Frosty the Snowman
The results were impressive and joyful, reflecting strong house spirit, creativity, and connection across the LCS community.
Leading with Heart: Giving Back
In addition to the celebration, the Grade 11 class continued a long-standing tradition of service. The holiday cards for Hospice Peterborough, along with the Grade 11 hand-knit hugs, have now been delivered. This initiative has connected the Grade 11 class with Hospice Peterborough for five years and allows students to share care, kindness, and community support during what can be a difficult time of year for many.
Building the Foundation for Grade 12 Leadership
This day is a powerful example of how Grade 11 students are given space to grow as leaders — planning events, leading peers, solving problems, and creating inclusive experiences for the whole community. These opportunities help students build confidence and skills that will carry forward into Grade 12, as they continue to grow as leaders while living the LCS values.
Thank you to the Grade 11 Representatives, student volunteers, MCs, and all who contributed their time, energy, and creativity to make this celebration such a success. The Grade 11 Holiday Party was a joyful reminder of the strength of our community — and the perfect way to head into the winter break.
