Spring Market Pop-Ups Connect Learning, Creativity, and Community Impact

Students in the Grade 10/11 Green Industries course at Lakefield College School recently brought their learning to life through two Spring Market pop-up events held on April 8 and April 13 in support of the Nogojiwanong Friendship Centre.

The markets are part of the course’s culminating Community Impact Project, designed to integrate hands-on skills such as teamwork, design thinking, budgeting, marketing, and project management, while creating meaningful connections with community partners.

Throughout the term, students have worked in small project teams, each leading a distinct initiative. Alongside the Spring Market Table, groups are also developing a Seedling Sale planned for Regatta Day and contributing to the implementation of landscaping in the Outdoor Education Courtyard.

The Spring Market pop-ups showcased a wide range of student-produced goods, reflecting both creativity and practical skill development. Offerings included microgreens, homemade soup, candles, pickled vegetables, freeze-dried fruits, naturally dyed bandanas and scrunchies, as well as apple sauce and maple syrup.

Each product was developed through a full process of planning and production—students grew and cultivated ingredients from seed, experimented with design and materials, and applied marketing and budgeting strategies to bring their ideas to life. The markets also provided an opportunity to gather real-time feedback from the community, helping students refine their work and deepen their understanding of impact-driven entrepreneurship.

More than a sales initiative, the Spring Market reflects a learning experience grounded in authenticity and purpose—connecting classroom skills with real-world application and community engagement.
