A World of Flavour Comes to Life at Walk Around the World

On Monday, April 20, Lakefield College School’s annual Walk Around the World event took on an exciting new feel—thanks in large part to the welcoming space of the newly opened Hepburn Hall.

For the first time, the celebration was hosted inside the dining hall, creating a vibrant hub where students and staff could gather, connect, and explore global cuisine together. While Aramark continued to offer its wide range of everyday favourites, the highlight of the event was the impressive lineup of international dishes prepared by LCS students themselves.

In the days leading up to the event, students and staff signed up to host tables representing countries from around the world, spending the weekend preparing their dishes. The result was a rich and diverse culinary experience, featuring flavours from Afghanistan, Canada, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, the Philippines, South Korea, Syria, Taiwan, and Turkey.

Guests sampled a wide variety of dishes, including mandazi, molletes, Jamaican patties, stamp and go, karaage, bolani, longganisa, boba tea, jumeokbap, tourtière, halawet el jibn, Turkish delights, baklava, and scallion pancakes—each offering a meaningful connection to the cultures they represent.

More than just a meal, Walk Around the World was a celebration of community, culture, and shared experience. The event highlighted the power of food to bring people together, while giving students the opportunity to share a piece of their identity with others.

Congratulations to the International Club for their leadership in promoting, planning, and coordinating this memorable event, and a heartfelt thank you to all of the student chefs who made the day so special.
