Navigating the Grade 11 Spring & Summer: A Roadmap for Success
Building on this spring’s 2026 Springboard Series, our Grade 11 students are now entering a pivotal "bridge". These final four weeks of the school year are about transforming the insights gained during Career Day, Intersession, Regional Spotlight workshops and our recent University Fair into a concrete action plan. To help your child maintain momentum, we have synthesized the essential tasks for the months ahead. Whether they are staying in Canada or looking abroad, the focus this summer is on preparation, reflection, and action.
Language, Professional Growth & "The Undecided"
Regardless of destination, students should focus on building "soft skills" and exploring interests:
Real-World Skills: A summer job is the best way to practice oral communication and gain work experience!
The Global Reader: Expand horizons with lots of independent reading.
Exploring STEM: Not sure about a major? Explore different engineering and STEM fields via LabXchange.
Language Proficiency: If your student has <4 years of English-language high school, register for the Duolingo English Test (Canada/US) or IELTS (required for UK immigration).
Campus Visits
One of the most valuable steps a student can take is experiencing university life firsthand. Whether virtual or in-person, visits help students assess campus culture, facilities, and the "fit" of an environment. We will help them to tour campuses across Ontario on May 29th. Here are other opportunities you can explore:
Ontario Open Houses: Spring and autumn are prime windows to visit local institutions. Get those dates on the family calendar!
International Tours (US/UK/Europe): For families unable to travel together, consider organized services like VerveSmith, TS College Tours, or UniVisits.
UK Staycation: If your student is considering Scotland, there will be an opportunity to visit multiple university campuses during the LCS November Break.
If you miss a formal open house, most local institutions offer weekly student-led tours that you can book online.
Tuition, Scholarships and Financial Resources
With the global economy in flux, it is vital to understand the "Cost of Attendance" (tuition, room, board, and fees). Use the Education Cost Calculator to estimate your investment.
Residency Matters: Canadian citizens and permanent residents access domestic rates. International students will pay higher fees.
CAIS Reductions: International graduates from schools like LCS qualify for tuition reductions at Huron, Saint Mary’s, and Mount Allison
Scholarships: Update resumes and activity records now! Review our collection of merit-based and school-nominated awards (Loran, Schulich, etc.)
The LCS Class of 2026 has already secured hundreds of offers of admission and over $2.2 million in scholarships. A strategic approach this summer will put your child in the best position to join them. Please reach out to your student’s guidance counsellor for individualized conversations regarding post-secondary planning.
