3rd Annual Chinese Food and Culture Festival

By Mr. Adam Bishop

Relationships are cornerstones of the Lakefield College School experience and with over 45 countries represented, students have a truly global community from which to draw from. We work hard to ensure that students study, play and live in a place where people care about one another, form lifelong friendships and feel a bond of trust. A place where everyone knows one another in a genuine, deeply connected way. One of the ways our community connects is through the sharing of cultural traditions.

On Sunday, January 19, Lakefield College School students were treated to an exceptional evening of food, tradition, and entertainment – the third annual Chinese Food and Culture Festival. This important annual tradition continues to grow and evolve. With humble beginnings, in 2018 we celebrated with 100 students in the Head of School’s residence, and in just three short years we have grown to feed 300+ in Hadden Hall.

The Festival was created with two main goals in mind: to help share the rich history of Chinese food and culture with the LCS community, and to help give our Chinese students who come from so far away, an authentic taste of home at this meaningful time of year.

Once again, this year’s festival featured a dumpling-making workshop, traditional Chinese gifts and games, and a delicious feast with numerous dishes – the hand-made dumplings, traditional fried duck, beef, chicken, fish, fried vegetables, fried rice, and several noodle dishes. This year's festival also included an afternoon tea and snack with an incredible variety of treats, including special hand-made moon cakes. To end our special evening, staff and students were treated to an amazing firework display over the beautiful LCS waterfront.

This year’s event was another great success, and it simply would not be possible without the support of many volunteers. Thank you to our student volunteers for leading activities and decorating:

************
