Congratulations to the Class of 2021: Post-Secondary Destinations

Resilience, optimism, and a relentless pursuit of excellence are but a few ways of describing Lakefield College School’s Class of 2021. In fact, the collective success of this year’s grads is truly inspirational.  Having come through a full fifteen months of learning within a pandemic, we congratulate the Class of 2021 on all that they have achieved, securing post-secondary placements from some of the world’s top universities!

This year the graduating class has embraced the concept of global learning, as we have students heading off to schools all over the world.  Whether it is pursuing studies in Liberal Arts & Science at Harvard in the US, Philosophy, Politics & Economics at the University of Oxford in the UK, Engineering and Biomedical Science at McGill University here in Canada, or Global Politics & Economics at Waseda University in Japan, Lakefield will be represented worldwide and across a range of programs. And while final details are still forthcoming regarding scholarships, this year’s graduating class has received offers totaling over $1.5 million in scholarship awards to date, a testament to their strength and academic potential.

In Canada we have graduates who will be studying at institutions from coast to coast including at the University of British Columbia out west, McGill University and Bishop’s University in Quebec, through to Mount Allison University, St. FX and Dalhousie University on the east coast.

Within Ontario, while Queen’s University continues to be a favourite with twelve of our grads heading to Kingston, Ontario for their post-secondary studies, the University of Toronto and Western University were a close second and third for top destinations with 10 and 9 students respectively, choosing to make Toronto and London their new homes.

Throughout Ontario, we have students also embarking on some specialty programs including Mechatronics at the University of Waterloo, the Medical Professional stream at Trent University, the Outdoor Adventure Naturalist Co-op program at Algonquin College, Nursing at Western, Architectural Studies at the University of Toronto, as well as McMaster University’s unique and highly selective Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Science Co-op program.

With offers of admission from over thirty-one different post-secondary institutions in the United States this year, seven students have opted to attend a wide range of schools, including the University of California Berkeley for Computer Science and Engineering on the west coast to Harvard, New York University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for studies in the Arts and Sciences, on the east coast.  There are also a number of grads pursuing studies in the creative fields including the University of Arizona for Musical Theatre, Columbia College for Film, and the Savannah College of Art & Design for studies in Animation Design.

And of course, beyond North America, Europe has become an increasingly popular destination. This year we have students heading to IE University in Spain, the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, as well as highly selective schools in the United Kingdom including the University of Oxford, King’s College London, Manchester University and University College London.

As often happens, each year a number of our students opt to take a gap year, accepting an offer, and then deferring it for a year so that they can take some time to do a combination of travel, work, and volunteer experience, before returning to their post-secondary studies.

No matter what lies ahead for our graduates, we are exceptionally proud of all that they have accomplished, confident in their abilities for continued success in their lives beyond LCS, and we wish them all the best in the future!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
As a boarding school and congregate living setting, it is our requirement that all of our students are COVID tested and cohorted in small groups in order to be able to live safely together in each of their houses as a family would. The students who appear together in the accompanying video, without masks, reside in the same home and as such are in adherence with the Government of Ontario’s requirements.

She is currently attending Year 8 at Malvern College Hong Kong which is under IB curriculum. She was born in Nov 2008. May I know if she can apply for the boarding programme at Lakefield for 2022/23? Many thanks & kind regards, Jessica
