Lakefield College School Students Attend the Ontario Student Leadership Conference

Written by: Ms. Gullick-Scott

This week, five Grade 11 students attended the Ontario Student Leadership Conference in Niagara Falls. It was an action-packed three days that allowed them to meet new people, learn what it means to be a leader, and improve their self-confidence.

On the first day of the conference, our Grade 11s listened to motivational speakers and met with peer students and teachers from over 90 schools across Ontario. “Our Grade 11 representatives were amazing and did an incredible job of representing LCS.” - Ms. Gullick-Scott

Motivational speaker sessions continued on day two of the conference and our students listened to Cara Filler (author and entrepreneur) and Scott Hammell (four-time Guinness World Record holder). Filler spoke with students about how they can give meaning to the events that occur in their lives—positive and negative—and maintain control over the “steering wheel” of their lives. Hammell shared messages about effective leadership, how to protect teammates, how to highlight your team’s skill sets, and how to effectively delegate and manage tasks. “Our Grade 11s attended concurrent workshops and continuously impressed me with their spirit and support.” - Ms. Gullick-Scott

The last day of the conference was just as amazing as the first two. With a full five hours of incredible programming, our Grade 11 representatives continued to connect with peers, seek inspiration, and find opportunities for personal growth in each session they attended.

“Surrounded by amazing youth, our buckets are full and our hearts are happy.” - Ms. Gullick-Scott

We look forward to seeing our students put their new skills into practice at The Grove by leading their peers with confidence.
