LCS Drone Program: Igniting Exploration and Collaboration in the Skies

Students at LCS have soared to new heights with our Drone Program (launched this spring)! Over the past three weeks, the program has achieved remarkable milestones, including a successful flight review, the assembly of a Quadcopter kit, and an enlightening presentation by Vev Soreign, a prominent figure from SUGU Drones.

The journey of quadcopter assembly presented a significant challenge for our enthusiastic drone ‘newbies’. With unwavering determination and self-efficacy, they tackled various hurdles, employing a combination of research, trial and error, and collaborative problem-solving. The program's strength lies in the collective expertise of students, each contributing their unique skills to overcome obstacles along the way.

Completing the assigned tasks required a synchronized team effort, showcasing the power of collaboration. Throughout the process, students delved into Transport Canada regulations, explored diverse industry applications of drone technology, gained insights into radio transmitter-receivers, and prioritized Lithium Polymer battery safety. These invaluable lessons not only provided technical knowledge but also instilled a sense of responsibility and accountability in the group.

On April 25, Drone Club hosted Vev Soreign, an esteemed representative from SUGU Drones. Soreign captivated our teens with his real-world applications of drone technology, sharing remarkable experiences such as firefighting at Toronto Pearson Airport and aircraft inspection at Bombardier. Additionally, he enlightened students about the STEM programs he leads in high schools, emphasizing the endless possibilities and opportunities that await them in this dynamic field.

The LCS Drone Program has opened new horizons for our students, encouraging them to think beyond the boundaries of traditional education. Through hands-on experiences and expert guidance, they have not only developed technical expertise but also nurtured critical skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability. The program serves as a launchpad for their future endeavours, fueling their passion for innovation and technology.

With every flight and every accomplishment, LCS students are reaching new heights, embarking on a journey of exploration, innovation, and limitless possibilities in the vast expanse of the sky!
