6th Annual Seb Jones ’13 Poetry Slam

The theatre was buzzing with energy on Friday, April 25, as the 6th Annual Seb Jones ’13 Memorial Poetry Slam brought our community together for an unforgettable night of spoken word. With heartfelt performances, powerful storytelling, and the signature snap of appreciation from the crowd, the event once again celebrated the courage and creativity of our student poets.

Five brave students took to the stage, sharing pieces that gave us a glimpse into their worlds. Guiding us through the evening was interdisciplinary artist and slam poet extraordinaire Charlie Petch, who opened with a mesmerizing performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow—played on the saw—and stepped in as the sacrificial poet to help warm up the judges.

It was a close competition filled with emotion and insight. Congratulations to Louisa ’25, who earned first place, and Veda ’26, our talented runner-up. Every performer should be proud—you inspired us all.

We are grateful to the Jones family for their ongoing support of this special event that continues to honour Seb’s legacy in such a meaningful way.

About Seb Jones '13
Seb Jones, Class of 2013, was a sporty outdoorsman, keen canoeist, an artist, and a friend to all who knew him. Sebastian was influential in ensuring everyone felt valued and included. Sadly in June of 2019, Sebastian died by suicide. As a tribute to Seb's spirit, his family and friends sponsor an annual poetry slam competition. In doing so, they hope to add some joy and lightness during the long dark days of winter.
