Grade 12 Law Students Gain Real-World Insight During OPP Detachment Visit

Last week, Grade 12 Law students from Lakefield College School visited the Ontario Provincial Police Detachment in Peterborough for an engaging, hands-on learning experience that brought classroom concepts to life.

Throughout the visit, students explored key aspects of policing, including how arrests are processed, how evidence is handled, and the range of responsibilities carried out by officers in their daily work. The group had the opportunity to meet with detectives and constables, gaining insight into different career pathways within law enforcement and the collaborative nature of police work.

A highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the detachment, where students were able to see behind the scenes of police operations. This included a look at various departments, holding cells, equipment used in investigations, and police vehicles—offering a clearer understanding of how procedures studied in class are applied in real-world contexts.

The experience provided students with meaningful connections to their studies in criminal law and justice systems, while also encouraging thoughtful questions about procedure, ethics, and public safety.
A sincere thank you to Officer John Lester and the members of the OPP Peterborough Detachment for hosting our students and for their continued support of experiential learning in our Law program.
