Grade 10 History Students Explore the Forces That Shaped Modern Canada

Grade 10 History students in Ms. Hansler and Mr. Morton’s classes recently showcased their culminating projects, taking a deep dive into Canada’s post-war evolution through research, collaboration, and discussion.

Through a series of “Pitches” and an interactive Gallery Walk, students presented projects examining significant Canadian milestones, movements, and individuals through the lenses of Economics, Politics, Environment, and Culture.

Their research explored a wide range of topics, including the economic transformation of the post-war boom, the effects of the 2008 financial crisis, environmental policy changes such as the banning of single-use plastics, and the cultural impact of the Toronto International Film Festival. Students also highlighted influential Canadians, including Terry Fox, and examined how individuals and events have contributed to shaping Canadian identity over time.

The collaborative format encouraged meaningful peer-to-peer learning, giving students the opportunity to teach one another about their topics, engage in thoughtful conversations, and reflect on the connections between historical events and present-day Canada.

The culminating task demonstrated students’ ability to think critically about history while strengthening their research, communication, and presentation skills in a highly engaging and interactive setting.
