1st Boys’ Soccer
Coaches: Dean Douglas, Janice Runza
The 1st Boys’ Soccer Team welcomed Greenwood College School to LCS for their first league game of the season. Pressure from our midfield and attack led to an early goal by striker Keifer Stevenson just inside the six yard box. Later into the first half, left-winger Colin Aldis increased our lead with a wonderful strike from distance. For the first ten minutes of the second half our boys dominated possession and came close to scoring again. However, Greenwood rallied together and responded with a number of attacks, eventually resulting in a goal from a corner kick. The last ten minutes was a nail-biting finish with both sides coming close to scoring on several occasions. Thankfully, we held out to the end and secured a 2-1 victory!

2nd Boys’ Soccer
Coaches: Alan Cundall, Ian Armstrong
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Lakefield College School 2nd Boys Soccer Team faced defending league champions, Albert College (Belleville) in their home opener. Showing remarkable improvement over just a few days of practice, the young mean defended well, created some lovely scoring chances, and played with great courage. Despite losing the game to a stronger side, all team members are confident that the balance of the season will continue to demonstrate marked improvement.

Scoring for LCS was Juan Pablo Gutierrez with his second of the year. Goaltender Moritz Malina-Altzinger was extremely strong in goal as were strikers Chris Courtis, Duncan Donnay, and Seb Jones. Greg Hill, Andy Mui, and Ryan da Silva played physical defense afternoon.

Bantam Boys Soccer
Coaches: Robin Spears, Ryan Spears
The Bantam Boys Soccer Team played their first game at LCS during Fall Fair. It was a great learning opportunity for all the boys. They meshed well as a team, but were unable to defend themselves against AC on home turf with a final score of 6-2. Goal scorers were Craig Stark and Jordan Gillis.

Our athletes worked hard in practice all week and worked out the kinks from Saturday's game. They performed as a great team of athletes at their game on Wednesday, September 28th. Communication played a key factor in the games success. Chris Gill dumped one in early and Jeff Williams smacked a great goal in during the second half. The boys celebrated with a win of 2-0 over RSGC.

1st Girls’ Basketball
Coaches: John Braeckman, Leslie Schumacher
The 1st Girls' Basketball Team travelled to Crestwood Prep on Wednesday the 21st, and played in an exhibition tournament against Crestwood and Pickering. The team won both games. LCS defeated Crestwood with a score of 32 to 6. LCS also went on to defeat Pickering 40 to 10!

During Fall Fair, the team played Bayview Glen School and extended their winning streak with a score of 34 to 9. Shannon Scrocchi was the game's top scorer with 11 points. The girls came out strong and kept it up throughout the game, scoring 20 points in the first half, while BVG scored 6. What the team really appreciated were the cupcakes Abby Allen's mother had baked for them: the perfect end to the perfect game.

On September 28, the 1st Girls' Basketball Team played against Holy Trinity School and won 42 LCS to 28. Shannon Scrocchi played her best yet this season even with her injured hand, scoring over half of the overall points for LCS. The girls were tired, but did not lose the lead and continued to use the manoeuvres learned in practise against the other team. Formidable with their press and press-break, the LCS team earned their points even with the subdued cheering from the Lakefield audience. The LCS 1st basketball team played an exceptional game against their hardest competitors yet and triumphed.

Their next game is on Wednesday October 12 at Toronto French School, but the LCS team plays against HTS again on Friday October 14 at Holy Trinity School. The team's next homegame is on Wednesday October 19 against TFS.

Cross Country
Coaches: Jonetta Loo, Mark Sinker
During Fall Fair this year, the cross country team participated in the Prince Andrew Run. The race was two laps around the beautiful Lakefield campus. The athletes all performed well and appreciated the support from spectators and race marshals.

2nd Girls’ Field Hockey
Coaches: Amy Moore, Jen Horrigan
On Wednesday September 28th, the LCS 2nd Field Hockey team continued their undefeated streak with a 0-0 tie against Holy Trinity School. Despite rough conditions, the girls handled themselves well on the road and continued to apply pressure throughout the game. Sophia Walter, Ellis Mingie, Anna Porte and Celeste Hutton generated scoring opportunities in the second half and Nayna Maini, Liv Essen, Sam Abed and Ceci Gregory anchored the team on defence. Goaltender Chloe Blatchford made clutch saves to give LCS a chance at the win.

This was a solid outing for this young team. The girls continue their season, on the road, against Ridley on Saturday.

Junior Girls’ Field Hockey
Coaches: Laura Macklin and Melissa Rathier
The Junior Field Hockey Team hit the pitch this past week in three games. On Saturday, they met Appleby in, what was for many, their first game ever. They dominated the game, spending much of it in the opponent's half. Facing tough defense in the circle, our team could not get one past their skilled goalie and finished the game in a 0-0 tie.

On Wednesday, the team braved the downpour at TCS in the first tri-meet if the season. The girls fell 2-0 to Villanova College in the first game and held TC to a 0-0 tie in the second game. Karen Collins played brilliantly in net and earned her shutout with a tremendous save in the dying minutes of the game against TCS. Shelby MacEwen was a notable force on defense supported in the mid-field by captain Jenna Vander Velden and Samantha Ramsay. Despite several rushes to the net in both games our forward line came up short and continues the hunt for the first goal of the season.

Next week, Lakefield will host the next tri-meet. With well matched opponents in the league, it proves to be an exciting season.

1st Boys' Volleyball
Coaches: Sarah McNamara, Steve Salt
In their first league game of the season, the 1st Boys' Volleyball Team played Saturday against Greenwood College School 3-1. The boys rallied in the second set however coming up short after four sets.  The boys were able to work as a team and support each other. All team members showed a great effort, with visible growth from our initial practices, but still leaving room for continued improvements moving forward in the season. We are looking forward to on-going improvement and success throughout the remainder of the season.

The team then took on Holy Trinity School on Wednesday afternoon. The team has continued to make significant improvements from their subsequent practices after last weekend’s first league game. Some of the most improved areas include their first pass, blocking and consistent serving. Although they fell short at the end of four sets, it has given the team the opportunity to continue to work on their areas of need while continuing to strengthen their already impressive skill set.
