Keep Swimming

By Vera Wilcox

Lower Colebrook Opening

Returning seniors Marisa Evans, Shannon Scrocchi along with new senior Justine Dutil worked hard their first night in residence on Tuesday, September 4th before they left on Expedition the following morning, getting the house looking festive and welcoming for Lower's new and returning students due in on Sunday, September 9th.

From filling decorative baskets with goodies and essentials, to blowing up balloons and putting up streamers, the girls worked hard that first night. When they returned from Expedition, they were right back at it, with putting up room signs, making welcome fish signs, decorating the bathrooms and planning ice-breaker get to know you games for the following day!

They chose the theme "keep swimming" from Finding Nemo to motivate the girls to keep going all year and that in Lower we'll be "swimming" and supporting each other to have a great year!

From the comments received from our new families, the Lower grads succeeded in making them feel welcomed and excited for the year ahead! Well done Shannon, Marisa and Justine!

House event with Upper Colebrook

A suggestion was made last year that perhaps we could continue the opportunity for new and returning students to get to know each other in smaller groups, which would be less intimidating and friendlier. Following the conclusion of grade orientations on Wednesday, the houses picked up the momentum of getting to know you on Thursday night. The girls’ houses were paired up with another girls’ house as the boys’ houses paired up with other boys’ houses. Various events were planned from playing in the gym, games in classrooms, spa and movie nights etc.

Upper and Lower Colebrook got together and started the evening with a game of "Ricky, Ricky, toes" followed by a spa night of manicures, pedicures and facials while watching movies in both common rooms. Cupcakes, popcorn, chips and drinks were thoroughly enjoyed by the girls as they got to know each other from each house!

Thank you to all the Student Heads of house who planned these events! Stay tuned to see more about tonight’s Friday night events when a girls’ house is paired with a boys’ house!
