1st Girls’ Field Hockey
Coaches: Jen Horrigan, Nichola Bendle
The 1st Girls’ Field Hockey team has worked through a short but intense schedule this fall. With the regular season completed, LCS is in first in the league and heads to the final tournament at Downsview Park in Toronto on October 31 where LCS will be battling to bring home the gold.
LCS played a strong final 4 games to secure first place. On Wednesday, October 15, the team travelled to Havergal College to play a double header against Havergal and St Clement's School. LCS came out fast and furious in the first game and dominated the play throughout the game. After numerous close chances the balls started going in the net and with goals going by Caroline Dupuis, Skye Nadon, Kristin Evans and Sydney Ginns and a shut out performance by Star Jang, LCS won 4-0. With a storm looming and only a few minutes rest, LCS pressed on for a second game versus St Clement’s. LCS took their scoring touch from the first game and set the tone early in the game. Goals by Skye Nadon (2), Kristen Evans (2), Sydney Ginns, Caroline Dupuis and Jen Ower gave LCS the early lead. Solid defence by Reagan MacDonald, Emily Hanson, Rachel Wootton, Emma Cooper, Alex Rousseau and goalie Star Jang meant that any attack by SCS was quickly defeated and the game ended as a 7-0 victory for LCS.
On Saturday, October 18, LCS faced Appleby College in an important league game. It conditions that saw rain, cold temperatures and extreme mud, the LCS squad played what has been their best game to date. With midfielders Kristin Evans, Esme Munoz, Delaney Stedman and Caroline Dupuis taking turns controlling the play, LCS moved the ball well despite the soggy conditions. Goals by Asha Trott and Jen Ower secured the win for LCS.
In the final league game of the season, LCS hosted Branksome Hall. With the LCS field still too wet for play, we moved to the turf at Sir Sanford Fleming College in Peterborough to put an exclamation point on a successful regular season. The turf ensured the game was fast paced and every player had a pivotal role. Abbie Masciangelo generated scoring opportunities on the busy right side and Esme Munoz and Emilie Norris-Roozman show cases increasingly strong dribbling skills as the maneuvered the ball up the field. Our defence again proved to be a stone wall and scoring touch by Asha Trott, Caroline Dupuis and Skye Nadon (2) made it another convincing win for LCS.

1st Girls’ Basketball
Coaches: Dave Krocker, Kara Smith
On Wednesday, October 22, the 1st Girls’ Basketball team travelled to Country Day School. Our girls were victorious in a low scoring, defensive battle by a score of 30-25. It was a physical game and the LCS girls persevered, maintained their composure, and remained as a collaborative, supportive team. The girls' full court press was a deciding factor in this game, and while our offensive production was lower than in previous games, the hustle and grit our girls demonstrated made us proud.
Jr. Girls’ Basketball
Coaches: Kevin Limeback, Mike Vander Doelen
The Jr. Girls’ Basketball team welcomed St. Clement’s School for an afternoon game this past Wednesday. After some tough practice's earlier in the week the girls knew they were able to bring sustainable intensity throughout the game. LCS came out strong, building a lead by half. Behind the consistent strong play from Maddie Stillman and some great team defenseman the team extended their lead in the second half. The final score was 28-15. Our final game is Saturday, October 25 at Albert College at 11:00 a.m. We appreciate any fans that come out to support the team.
Jr./Bantam Boys’ Soccer
Coaches: Ian Armstrong, Tayler Morencie, Katrina Brennan, Paige Frigault
The Jr. Boys’ Soccer team played their first home league game in month this afternoon. The game took place on Lefevre Field against Toronto French School. We began the game with a revised line up - having Ali Attyani and Ross Hutchinson playing striker, as opposed to defence. The pace of the game was quick from the beginning. Our boys dominated the play and the action was primarily focused in TFS’s end. The boys were making good passes and switching the field often. Each player contributed to a very smart and strategic game. Frequently, the players would reset the play by passing the ball back to Jacob Kee, changing positions, and getting open to receive a new pass. Tristan Walsh scored the first goal for LCS 15 minutes into the first half. Not long after, Paul Bramkamp outworked the TFS defence and scored at 19:45. The ending score of the first half was 2-0. When we took to the pitch following a brief half-time break, the boys maintained their intensity. Ali Attyani and Zack Masciangelo made strong, confident give-and-go plays while moving up the left wing. Zack took a great shot that was saved by TFS’ keeper. Tristan followed up not long after and scored again at 46:30. The boys continued to take shots and make meaningful and reliable passes to their team mates. TFS scored at 78 minutes with a shot that just grazed the tops of Taylor Walsh’s hands. The final score of the game was 3-1. The boys will advance to the playoffs next week.
Last Saturday morning, the Jr. Boys’ Soccer team participated in a friendly game against Albert College on home turf. The weather was unpredictable but the boys were ready for a win. The game began was a fairly even match up. Neven Ferguson was in net and played a prominent role in the strong defensive line. At the 4-minute mark, Rayan Alfuhaid scored in the bottom left corner for a 1-0 lead. The rest of the half was a tight game with many close calls, only to wrap up at 30-minute mark with a goal from Jackson Harding. The second half brought in the rain and a crisp cold wind; however, our boys stayed strong and energized to the very end. A goal by Gabriel Rojas at the 50-minute mark brought the score to 3-0. The team communicated on the field allowing them to make smart plays and sharp passes. With 10 minutes left and no let up from the rain, the boys were quick on their feet and kept the ball past half, to make way for another goal by Rayan Alfuhaid at the 65-minute mark and a final goal by Chris Cameron at the 73-minute mark. The final score of 5-0 was a result of hard work and determination on the field.
