LCS Coach Todd Harris Receives Leadership in Sport Award

Todd Harris, a dedicated coach and leader in the sports community (at LCS and beyond) has been honoured with the Leadership in Sport Award for his outstanding contributions to endurance sports. With 27 years of experience, Mr. Harris has been involved in Nordic Skiing, Cross Country Running, and triathlon at both the club and high school levels in various roles.

Mr. Harris's passion for sports led him to spearhead major trail renovations to make Lakefield's trails suitable for provincial-level competitions. He is also the president of Kawartha Nordic Ski Club and has been instrumental in developing and coaching the youth and race program. In addition, he founded the Peterborough Pirates triathlon club, convened numerous CISAA and COSSA Nordic ski championships, and two CISAA cross-country championships.

Many of Mr. Harris's students and colleagues have praised him for his outstanding leadership and mentorship. One of his students, Gabriel Roti ’25, stated that Mr. Harris treated everyone with dignity and respect, and was always there to lend support:

“Mr. Harris is a person whom I deeply admire and respect not only as a coach but as a mentor; he treats everyone he meets with dignity and respect. His presence as a coach is quiet yet powerful and consistent. He believes every student should strive to reach their full potential and will be forever generous in his support. He is always there to lend support to me and so many others; for that, I and all who have had the privilege to be coached by him are forever grateful. His presence and teachings will serve me and others for many years.” - Gabriel Roti ’25 (Nordic Skier and Cross Country runner)

Mr. Harris's impact on the community was evident when he had a life-threatening medical emergency, and the outpouring of support from staff and students exemplified how meaningful his impact has been.

Mr. Ross (Director of Athletics), who presented the award, said, “In true Todd fashion, he pushed himself through a rigorous recovery and has returned to supporting Nordic Skiing, Cross Country and convening OFSAA Nordic this winter. It has been truly inspirational. There is not anyone that I can think of who is more deserving of this award. Congratulations Todd.”

Congratulations to Mr. Harris on receiving this well-deserved award.
