Faculty Member Geoff Bemrose Recognized with National Mentorship Award

Lakefield College School is proud to celebrate faculty member Geoff Bemrose P ’22, ’24, who has been named Most Outstanding Mentor at this year’s Canada Young Theatre Awards—an honour recognizing his exceptional impact on students both on and off the stage.

“Today we are thrilled to celebrate someone who embodies what it means to be an educator, artist, and mentor. Geoff Bemrose has been awarded Most Outstanding Mentor at this year’s Canada Young Theatre Awards—an incredible national recognition of the impact he has on students both on and off the stage,” said Sarah Young, Department Head.

Through musicals, Rock Choir, and countless productions, Mr. Bemrose has built a program that has impacted generations of students and fostered confidence, creativity, and a strong sense of belonging.

“As someone who loves singing at the school; being part of Rock Choir and the musicals, I’ve seen firsthand how much Mr. B gives to his students. He makes everyone immediately feel like they belong, whether you’ve been performing your whole life or have never been on stage. When I was injured and couldn’t be in the performance, he taught me how to run tech so I could still be part of the program. He creates a space where we feel safe to take risks, grow, have fun and truly love what we’re doing,” said Jenna ’26.

“I first knew Mr. Bemrose as a student, and now I have the privilege of working alongside him. This award comes as no surprise. He has a rare ability to see potential in people before they see it in themselves—and then help them grow into it. He empowers students by trusting them with real responsibility, whether on stage or behind the scenes, and teaches them every aspect of theatre with patience, kindness, and high expectations,” said Nic ’18, a colleague and former student.

One former student, Catherine Kim ’21, now performing in New York after completing her BFA in Musical Theatre, shared: “Mr. Bemrose wasn’t just a mentor to me—he made this path feel real and possible. His passion and belief in me gave me the confidence to fully commit to this journey.”

LCS congratulates Geoff Bemrose on this well-deserved honour and celebrates the lasting impact he continues to make in the school community.
