LCS Students Excel at National Engineering Challenge

On Friday, March 27, 19 AP Physics students from Lakefield College School competed in the 2026 National Engineering Month challenge at IE Weldon in Lindsay.

Teams of four were tasked with designing and building a Remote Object Manipulator using provided materials and a fixed budget, competing against students from IE Weldon, LCVI, Trinity College School, Fenelon Falls, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

After the preliminary round—used to rank teams from 1 to 16—LCS teams performed exceptionally well, securing five of the top six positions. The team of Ann ’28, Keeva ’27, Venessa ’27, and Angel ’27 finished first overall.

Moving into a four-round, head-to-head elimination tournament, all LCS teams advanced through to the quarterfinals. The Ross House team of Connor ’26, Julien ’26, Seb ’26, Kaan ’26, along with Grade 11 students Zach, Isla, Cavan, and Fraser, were eliminated in the quarterfinal round.

In the final results, the Matthews House team of Teddy ’27, Neil ’26, James ’26, and Jayden ’26 earned first place and the overall championship title. Just outside the top three, the team of Frank ’27, Lexi ’26, and Jimmy ’28 finished in fourth place.

Lakefield College School congratulates all students on their strong performances and for representing the school with skill, teamwork, and innovation.
