Leadership, Laughter & Lifelong Lessons: The LCS Experience at GSLS 2025

What We Learned: LCS Student Voices from GSLS 2025

What do you get when you combine eight LCS Grade 11 student leaders, two energetic staff advisors, and 550 students from across Canada (and even Poland)? A three-day adventure of inspiration, connection, and unforgettable memories: the 2025 Global Student Leadership Summit at Blue Mountain, Ontario!

From April 27–29, our Lakefield crew proudly joined a passionate community of young changemakers for a dynamic summit focused on confidence, community impact, well-being, and authentic leadership.

Our LCS Delegation

Student Leaders ('26): Valerie Lo, Theo Jones, Tate Hilton, Ryan Simmons, Evelyn White, Elise Devitt, Global Student Ambassadors ('26):  Lora Ross, Jenna Quinn
Staff Advisors: Mrs. Tobey Gullick-Scott & Mrs. Carrie Gilfillan

What We Heard

Throughout the summit, students were inspired by some of Canada’s most respected keynote speakers:
  • Dr. Greg Wells — on breathing through stress, resilience, and 1% improvements

  • Swish Goswami — on the power of youth entrepreneurship

  • Orlando Bowen — on forgiveness, energy, and using your gifts

  • Dr. TA Loeffler — on facing life’s “Everests” with courage

Other speakers like Andy Thibodeau, Dillon Mendes, Joel Hilchey, Dr. Jim Cain, and Stu Saunders kept the momentum going with wisdom, humour, and energy (yes, there was even some line dancing!).

What We Learned – Student Reflections

Tate '26:
"Leadership isn’t about being the loudest. It’s about showing up in small, meaningful ways."

Valerie '26:
"I’ve learned that stress and excitement feel the same in our bodies—what matters is how we frame it. I’m also taking away Dr. Wells’ strategy of simply taking three deep breaths to reset. And Orlando’s reminder: 'Use your gift, and don’t let it go to waste.' That really stuck with me."

Theo '26:
"Sometimes just being present makes all the difference—true leadership is about making others feel seen and heard."

Evelyn '26:
"I learned how essential it is to step outside my comfort zone. Dr. TA Loeffler reminded us that everyone has their own ‘Everest.’ We all grow through challenge."

Ryan '26:
"Connecting with students and advisors from Poland was a unique opportunity to learn about leadership through diverse lenses—especially how to lead with positivity and resilience."

Elise '26:
"'No deposit, no return.' That message hit home for me: you get out what you put in. Small, daily changes matter, and kindness is always contagious. I’m bringing that mindset back to LCS."

Jenna '26:
"This summit helped me grow as a leader and a person. I was especially moved by TA Loeffler’s story and her message to find our own Everest. I return feeling more grateful, connected, and inspired."

Lora '26:
"This was my third—and most meaningful—Peregrine conference. It recharged my creativity and confidence. The friendships I made, and Orlando Bowen’s message about energy and intention, will stay with me. GSLS reminded me: nothing will change unless you make it happen."
