Four Years in a Row: LCS Shines at the Challenge Trophy Regatta

On September 24, 2025, Lakefield College School and Rosseau Lake College renewed their historic sailing rivalry at the Annual Challenge Trophy Regatta. Last sailed in 1973, this storied competition was reintroduced in 2022 as an annual event — and for the fourth year in a row, LCS proudly brought home the Rudder Trophy.

The Regatta reflects a rich history between the two schools, anchored by the tradition of the Rudder Trophy, a competition named for its distinctive trophy made from an old rudder rediscovered in LCS’s HOEC outdoor education building. The event celebrates decades of camaraderie, teamwork, and friendly rivalry that connects both communities on and off the water.

This year’s competition was fierce, with outstanding performances across all categories. Special congratulations go to the following sailors for their exceptional achievements:
  • Dawn ’26 – Laser Group A winner

  • Ryan ’26 – Laser Group B winner

  • Jay ’26 – 3rd place in both Laser Groups A and B

  • Ryan ’26 & Niklas Duenkel ’26 – Zest Group A winners

  • Jimmy ’28 & Julien ’26 – 2nd place in Zest Group A

  • Dawn ’26 & Marcus ’26 – 2nd place in Zest Group B

Beyond the results, the regatta was an opportunity for the LCS and RLC communities to celebrate their shared passion for sailing. Students demonstrated not only competitive skill but also sportsmanship and teamwork, embodying the spirit of the event. For the sailors, the day was about more than winning — it was about carrying forward a proud tradition and creating memories that will last far beyond the final race.
For LCS, this win represents more than just taking home the trophy — it’s a continuation of celebrating decades of friendly rivalry, teamwork, and a shared passion for sailing.

As LCS looks ahead, the victory marks another milestone in what has become an important annual tradition. With both schools already looking forward to future races, there is little doubt that the spirit of the Rudder Classic will sail on for years to come.
