LCS welcomed the Year of the Horse with its annual Lunar New Year dinner on February 21, bringing students, staff, and families together for a vibrant evening of food, tradition, and community spirit.
Guests were treated to a buffet featuring over 40 authentic dishes representing Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. The spread offered familiar favorites alongside new flavors for students and staff to explore, making the evening both delicious and educational.
A highlight of the celebration was the Dumpling Workshops, where participants learned the art of making dumplings from scratch. Led by dedicated parent volunteers—including Stephanie Zhu and Edward Wang P’27, Rong Wang and Wei Zheng P’27, Gloria Zhang P’28, Liou Zhou P’26, Yangjie Zhao P’29, Abraham Jiang P’29, David Hu and Elle Shi P’28, and Diyin Shi and Shirley Hu P’28—students rolled, filled, and shaped their dumplings with enthusiasm. By the end of the night, the group had made over 400 dumplings, all enjoyed by the attendees.
As families arrived for the buffet, they were greeted by the God of Fortune (Mr. Wood), who distributed traditional red envelopes to wish everyone wealth, happiness, and prosperity in the year ahead. The celebration continued with fireworks lighting up the night sky, and students enjoying traditional card games and mahjong with friends.
This year marks the 9th year of the LCS Lunar New Year Celebration, funded by the Chinese Food and Cultural Festival Fund, with support from local and overseas Chinese families. We are already looking forward to celebrating the Year of the Goat in 2027.
