Historically, upon graduation, a gift from the departing class to Lakefield College School has been a long-standing Grove tradition. In fact, over the past ten years, LCS graduates have supported this endeavour with an outstanding 100% participation – an incredible show of support, unique among North American independent schools. This momentum was spearheaded in 2006 by alumni parents Jock ’74 and Sue Fleming who challenged the grads, offering to match their gifts if they achieved 100% participation. Inspired by this friendly competition, additional families joined the cause, and that year more than $37,000 was raised for the Class of 2006 Bursary. This initiative was recognized in 2007 by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) with a Gold Award for Leadership in Educational Fundraising.
Students were encouraged to donate the monetary equivalent of their year (i.e. $20.15 for 2015 grads) and these contributions were augmented by generous parental leadership gifts. As intended by the graduates, the impact is immediate: these gifts supported expendable bursaries for LCS students who would not have been able to attend The Grove without additional support.
A very special shout out to all our former grads who participated in this program and demonstrated their commitment to “giving back” to a place that has given them so much.
