2017/18 has been an amazing year at The Grove

This year, we welcomed Anne-Marie Kee as Head of School and Foundation, hosted two student-led conferences, won historic CISAA gold medals, embarked on a new strategic planning process, experienced a moving and thought-provoking Dance Showcase, and so much more.

    This year's Closing ceremonies marked the graduation day for the Class of 2018, and the completion of Anne-Marie Kee's first year as Head of School and Foundation. We were delighted to welcome special guest, alumnus Duncan McCue '88, to present the keynote address.

    Each year, Regatta Day is an event that the entire community looks forward to. It combines the best aspects of camp –  camaraderie and competition, water and fun – and is an excellent opportunity to celebrate sunny, warm days and our beautiful campus. This year, the excitement was greater than ever as we anticipated the re-opening of our newly enhanced waterfront!

    Grade 11 dance, drama, music, and visual arts students presented their integrated creative projects. Gallery in The Grove has continued, and created, great conversations about social issues including these performance and art pieces about body image, bipolar disorder, poverty and more.

    All Grade 9 students were taken out of their regular classrooms to participate in an integrated set of experiences that pulled together themes from different parts of their academic program this year.

    In the fall, LCS launched a school-wide process to develop a strategic direction for the school. It provided an ideal opportunity for us to engage our community with four constituent surveys, to explore the Characteristics and Skill Sets Our Students Need – Now and in The Future and the Ever-Shifting Landscape of Education.

    Congratulations to Benjamin Dunk '18 who had a percentile score of 99 and ranked 25th (placing in the top 1% of all contestants) in the University of Toronto National Biology Competition

    While getting to know our students and community this year, Anne-Marie Kee and her dog Ginny have been regular visitors in classrooms, at sporting events, at Chapel and around the campus!

    Dance, like all of the arts, can entertain, tell stories, express emotions, encourage reflection and offer different perspectives. Dance can also reflect aspects of society and raise awareness about important social issues. Some of this year's dances explored the issues of domestic violence and sexual harassment.

    More than 100 students, parents and faculty members gathered in celebration of the inaugural LCS Chinese Food and Cultural Festival.

    After forming the team just last year, the 1st Girls’ Softball team won the CISAA Gold Medal! The 12-11 win came after a grand slam from Allie Avard, fantastic pitching from Claire Martin and amazing play by the whole team! Read on to see more highlights from the spring co-curricular season.

    Anna Harris ’20 qualified for both the 2018 Ontario Winter Games in Cross Country Skiing and the 2018 Ontario Summer Games in the Triathlon.

    LCS hosted 104 visiting students and 46 adults from 32 schools across Canada for the CAIS Senior Student Leadership Conference - an incredibly successful event planned by our four Grade 12 student directors, Allie Avard, Robyn-Lee Hotte, Joe Ribbins and Noah Storey.
  • Jr. Boys' Hockey wins Gold Jr. Boys' Hockey wins Gold
    It was clear that the enthusiasm of Cole Fraser, Joey Osborne and Matt Hudon would propel us forward, and it was truly inspiring to watch the magnificent speed and exceptional skills of Luc Reeve and Noah Sedore as they donned LCS jerseys and helped their school win the CISAA Junior Championship. Read on to see more highlights from the winter co-curricular season.
  • Damn Yankees Damn Yankees
    After two and a half months of hard work, LCS presented the classic Broadway musical Damn Yankees at the end of November.  We had four amazing performances, which saw the theatre jam-packed with appreciative audience members. The show received an outstanding review in the local press, and a well-earned standing ovation each night.
  • Trailblazers & Pathmakers Trailblazers & Pathmakers
    LCS welcomed more than 100 women from 11 local schools and the Peterborough community to participate in the Trailblazers & Pathmakers - Empowering Girl’s Leadership Conference, facilitated by the passion of our LCS young women leaders.

Lakefield College School is a private, coeducational boarding and day school for students in grades 9 through 12, located in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada.
